The Professional Standards for BC Educators outlines the expectations and responsibilities of teachers in British Columbia. As a teacher candidate these standards are important to stand by as they promote professionalism. As educators we are held to a higher standard because we become role models for our students. Because of this it is important to model appropriate behaviour. By committing to these standards, I will support every student’s growth by creating an inclusive and respectful classroom as well as recognize that teaching is a process of life-long learning where I will continuously reflect on my practice and strive for improvement. Furthermore, the standards promote being a team player by treating all students and colleagues with respect regardless of their background.
